Bigwood Portraits

If you are a busy mum and you struggle with how your kids seem to be growing up overnight, right in front of your eyes, while you're still trying to find the time to tick "get family photos done" off your to-do list, you've come to the right place. Once you discover my stress-free approach to family portraits you'll be able to stop time, just for a little while, so you can spend some quality time with the kiddos and enjoy ready-to-hang framed images of your family delivered to your door.

I'm Andrew Bigwood, and I've been shooting portraits since late 2009, and was first published in January 2011, in Advanced Photography Magazine.

I've worked in the family domain as a domestic interiors painter throughout a large part of my working life, and making the transition into family portrait photography felt like a natural move, allowing me to continue in that family environment, swapping my creative paint brush for a camera!

Understanding the family environment is important, because I know the pressures that parents are under each day, in getting their kids out of bed , dressed and fed and delivered to their respective schools.

Then repeat backward in the afternoon, not forgetting all the other activities the kids are involved in, and that doesn't even cover the parents jobs, out-of-work interests and occasional social life!

My point is, I'm used to dealing with busy people - parents that need help reaching their objectives, and safe in the knowledge that they can leave it in the expert hands of someone like myself.

Client Reviews

After speaking to Andrew in some depth about our need for some new family portraits, he was able to put us completely at ease, arranging everything, from the shoot day to delivering and hanging a framed print for us. The shoot was relaxed and fun, and I will certainly be rebooking Andrew for another shoot in 2 years time.

Our experience with Andy taking our pictures was brilliant from start to finish. He listened to what we liked and wanted to achieve. Lots of fun was had by all on the shoot; he was wonderful at putting the children at ease and finding some great locations. We love our new family pictures and couldn’’t be happier with the end result.

After the arrival of our first child last year, I contacted Andy about a family photoshoot. He was very attentive and was happy to listen. With us not being entirely sure what we wanted, Andy helped us decide on a location that worked for us as a family, and for Andy as a photographer. Andy gave us some brief instructions on what to bring on the day of the shoot and what colours to avoid wearing. We arrived at the location to find Andy there already. He had already scouted the location and taken all the test shots he needed. My wife has always been uncomfortable in front of a camera and had some apprehension beforehand, but Andy was very quick to have her feeling relaxed and at ease and this was reflected in the final images. The day itself felt more like a family day out with a photographer in tow, rather than a formal photo session. Andy was very good with our 15 month old daughter and captured some beautiful images of her looking very happy and natural. Andy wasted no time on the day, and was very quick to get finished images to us, and even took time so sit with us to select images for print and framing. I would certainly be looking to have more photos taken as my daughter ages, and wouldn’t hesitate to use Andy again. It was a great experience and it left us with images that will stay with us for ever. Thanks Andy.
